Transfer your domain name
A domain name is linked to the registrant, not to the registrar who manages your domain name. This means that you can decide to move your domain name to another registrar. The procedure for moving a domain name depends on the extension of your domain name.
If you have not chosen a new registrar yet, the list of all registrars for .be, .vlaanderen and .brussels is posted here.
Move a .be domain name
Contact your current or new registrar and instruct him to request the transfer code that is linked to your domain name from DNS Belgium. You can also request the transfer code yourself below.
We send the transfer code to the e-mail address of the current registrant in our registration system. It is therefore important that your e-mail address is correct in our registration system and that you have your domain details updated if that is necessary.
If your contact data are not up to date, we are obviously unable to contact you. As a registrant, you are contractually required to keep your data up to date.
It is therefore important for you to update the contact data that are connected to your domain name as and when necessary. You cannot do that directly at DNS Belgium. Only your registrar is authorised to change your contact data.
If the registrar refuses to change the e-mail address at the request of the registrant itself, you can lodge a complaint (attaching the e-mails sent) with the legal department of DNS Belgium via email@example.com. Our legal department will investigate the complaint and contact the registrar. If the registrar is unable to give a valid reason and refuses to carry out the update, DNS Belgium will do it in the registrar’s place and invoice any costs involved to the registrar.
Provide your new registrar with all the details as for a new registration. Provide the transfer code also. He will then do what is necessary to move your domain name.
Move a .vlaanderen or .brussels domain name
Ask you current registrar for the transfer code that is linked to your domain name and give that code to your new registrar. Only the new registrar can file an application to move a domain name.
Your new registrar will file the transfer application (and transfer code) with DNS Belgium. Your old registrar has 5 calendar days to approve or to reject the application (e.g. because there are still open invoices). If he does not do so within 5 calendar days, the application is approved automatically.
Once it is approved, your new registrar will do what is necessary to move your domain name.
