8th successful edition of Move to Close the Gap raises €100,000

On Monday, 11 June, we organized Move to Close the Gap, together with Close the Gap and Guidooh. With this sporting event, where participants cycle and run with – not against – each other, we raise funds to enable underprivileged children and young people in Europe and in developing countries to familiarize themselves with the IT world. This year, we organized the event for the 8th time.

After having organized 7 editions of the event on the flanks of the mythical Paterberg, we decided to introduce some changes this year. Participants could opt for a run course in addition to cycling, and the event was held on the legendary Terlaemen race circuit in Zolder.

The changes could not fail to make their mark. More than 200 motivated sportsmen took part in the event, cycling more than 10,000 km in three hours. Some sports enthusiasts crossed the finish line of the 4 km circuit more than 28 times, thereby covering nearly 120 km. The challenging 2.5 km run course was also appreciated. The fastest woman ran 6 laps, and the fastest man 8 laps.

Proceeds: €100,000

The purpose of the event was to raise funds for Close the Gap vzw. They collect depreciated ICT equipment from large companies and refurbish it to be used for social initiatives in Belgium and the 3rd world.

Last year, we raised no less than €96,750. This year we set the bar higher. And we succeeded in our goal: we raised no less than €100,000. You can read here how that money was used.

We have a photo gallery here for those who want to enjoy the event again.

See you next year!
