Survey of the reasons for WHOIS searches

We would like to know the reasons why the data of a registrant are consulted on our website, so we are conducting a survey.

Following the new GDPR legislation that becomes effective on 25 May 2018, we will conceal the data of the registrant if the latter is a private person. This applies only to private persons who are registrants. Nothing will change for organisations which are registrants. The data shall continue to be accessible to everyone.

The way in which we adapt the WHOIS function will depend on the reasons why you consult this data.  You will therefore be asked the following question upon each search:

Why are you looking up this data?

  • Out of curiosity
  • To contact a registrant in order to acquire his domain name
  • To contact the registrant for another reason
  • To check whether the domain name is in your name
  • To check the e-mail address to which the transfer code is sent
  • To check the credibility of a certain web shop
  • To look into any security problem or misuse
  • Other reason
