Become a registrar

DNS Belgium has been granted a concession for the new gTLDs .vlaanderen and .brussels for a period of 10 years. We will also only be offering these extensions via registrars, so DNS Belgium will not itself be acting as a registrar. However, there are quite a few differences when it comes to managing a ccTLD such as .be.

  • ICANN determines to a large extent the terms of management and the procedures to be followed (e.g. when transferring a domain name)
  • Only ICANN-accredited registrars are allowed to offer .vlaanderen/.brussels directly. They must also have signed the RAR contract 2013 version with ICANN. ICANN-accredited registrars can then sign a contract with DNS Belgium for the gTLD they want. At the present time, 3 Belgian and around 50 foreign .be registrars are accredited by ICANN.

How do you become ICANN-accredited?

To become ICANN-accredited, you need to go through a number of technical phases, sign a contract with ICANN and pay the required fees. You will find more information about this at the ICANN website.

Want to offer .vlaanderen and .brussels, but you are not an ICANN-accredited registrar?

If you want to offer .vlaanderen or .brussels, you can contact those ICANN-accredited registrars and become their reseller.
If you have a contractual relationship with us as a .be registrar and you become a reseller of .vlaanderen and .brussels, you will be included on the list of registrars/resellers at our website.

How?

  • Contact one of the ICANN-accredited registrars and check whether you can work together for .vlaanderen and .brussels.
  • Contact us to register as a reseller, so that we can include you in our list with points of sale.  You can do this by sending an e-mail to support@dnsbelgium.be. Make sure to mention the ICANN-accredited registrar with whom you have an agreement.
  • The support officer checks whether you are a .be registrar and thus have a contractual connection with us.
  • If that is the case, the support officer checks whether the ICANN-accredited registrar has a contract with us for .vlaanderen and .brussels.
  • If that is the case, the support officer asks you to provide proof that shows you are a reseller with the aforementioned ICANN-accredited registrar.  That can be done for instance by means of a copy of the contract or confirmation by the ICANN-accredited registrar.
  • If that is the case, you will be added to the list with points of sale for .vlaanderen and .brussels, together with the ICANN-accredited registrars and other resellers.
