Domain name status

The status of a domain name is the condition of a given domain name at a particular moment.


When a domain name is available it means that it is not registered. It can be registered except if it does not comply with the Terms & Conditions for .be domain names (point 2. Acceptable domain names) or the Terms & Conditions for .vlaanderen and .brussels domain names (Article 1).

Not available

A domain name that is not available cannot be registered any more. You can request more information about the domain name in order to view its exact status and check the registrant's details. These are the possibilities:


Not valid

The domain name you inserted does not comply with the .be registration rules. You may have entered invalid characters.

What is a valid domain name?


Is the entity that registers a domain name for a company, organization or person. Next to the “resale” of web addresses registrars can also offer hosting services, web design... 


Domain owner, person who holds a domain name.


Domain Name System or Domain Name Server. The global DNS is the system and protocol used on the internet to translate domain names into IP addresses and vice versa. 


The Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation. Working in conjunction with CEPINA, DNS Belgium has developed an Alternative Dispute Resolution procedure (ADR) to deal with disputes relating to .be domain names.


Alternative Dispute Resolution. Any party with an interest can lodge an application for the alternative dispute resolution with CEPINA to settle a dispute about a .be domain name. The dispute is assessed by an independent Third-Party Decision-Maker, who is a legal expert in the matter. The Third-Party Decider may decide to delete the domain name or to transfer the name to the complainant. Under normal circumstances, the registrant is able to reply once in writing to the complainant's arguments.
