SDG icons in our communication

17 April 2019

From now on, you will see the SDG icons appear structurally under our articles and pages when the content contributes to or has to do with our sustainability goals. We do this because we wish to help make the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals better known among the general public.

Sustainable Development Goals

In September 2015, the General Assembly of the United Nationals adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These 17 SDGs and the 169 sub-goals connected thereto together constitute an action plan to bring about a sustainable and resilient society by 2030.

The SDGs are subdivided into 5 themes:  People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Participation. The emphasis in these SDGs is on “universality.” This means that these 17 SDGs will have to be implemented not only in the South but in the whole world, i.e. including here in Belgium.

Cooperation

The wide diversity of these development goals and the limited time we still have left to achieve them constitute major challenges for our society. Governmental authorities, citizens and companies will have to cooperate in order to get there, and we want to do our bit.

Our sustainability strategy

Sustainability is intertwined with all aspects of our business management. It is an integral part of our mission. In 2016, we charted our sustainability policy

We have carried out various actions that have contributed to these 17 SDGs in recent years. One of our structural actions these past years has been our participation in the VOKA Sustainable Entrepreneurship Charter.  To participate in this Charter, in 2019 we defined the inclusion of the SDGs in our communication as an action.

More information on the UN’s sustainable development goals can be found here. You can also seek inspiration if you want to tackle the SDGs yourself. The Belgian government has produced a handy brochure (available in NL, FR and DE) on these goals.

With this article, we support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
