About DNS Belgium and our sustainability approach
As a Belgian non-profit organisation, we are committed to a digital and sustainable society through trusted and widely recognised domain name services.
In doing so, we fulfil two equally important core missions.
First, we manage Belgium's domain name infrastructure. Through the domain name extensions .be, .brussels and .vlaanderen, we ensure that domain names remain reliable, secure and globally available. We are responsible for managing our DNS infrastructure, the registry database and compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
Second, we aim to strengthen the digital resilience of Belgian society. In 2025, we formally confirmed that this societal mission holds an equal position alongside our technical role as a registry. We therefore promote the use of domain names, inform and raise awareness among citizens and organisations on digital topics, and actively contribute to the fight against online fraud.
By combining these two core missions, we foster both the opportunities offered by the internet and trust in the internet in Belgium, contributing to a safer, more accessible and more sustainable digital society.
For more information about our core activities, we refer you to our 2025 annual report and our financial annual report. On this page, you can learn more about our role in internet governance and our stakeholders, including a history of the organisation and an overview of our value chain. Information about the organisation’s structure, corporate governance, values and directors can be found on this page. No conflicts of interest were identified in relation to the composition of the Board of Directors.
Our sustainability strategy
In 2024, we updated our sustainability strategy on the basis of a double materiality assessment and a broad stakeholder consultation. Through this process, we identified the sustainability topics that are most relevant to DNS Belgium and its stakeholders.
For each material topic, we defined objectives and KPIs to be achieved by 2030. These topics now form the foundation of our sustainability strategy and reporting. Progress towards these objectives is further explained throughout this report.
The materiality assessment below provides an overview of the sustainability topics that are most relevant to DNS Belgium and its stakeholders.
Final material topics as defined by internal staff and confirmed by surveyed external stakeholders.
Based on this analysis, we translated our priorities into a sustainability strategy with targets for 2030.
Sustainability strategy with ecological, social and governance (ESG) goals for 2030.

Implementation of the sustainability strategy and sustainability certification
For the implementation of our sustainability strategy, we allocated a budget of €373,450 in 2025.
In 2025, our Sustainability Manager reported monthly to the Board of Directors on the progress of our sustainability objectives.
Our CSR Committee, composed of representatives from different departments and levels of the organisation, helps oversee the implementation of our sustainability strategy. The committee met twice in 2025.
In 2025, we revised our sustainability matrix to ensure full alignment with the updated sustainability strategy and materiality assessment conducted in 2024. As part of this exercise, all material sustainability topics were integrated into the matrix.
The matrix is a fixed component of our decision-making process. Employees use it to assess the potential impact of projects, investments and procurement decisions on the various sustainability topics. This enables us to strengthen positive impacts, identify risks at an early stage and, where necessary, adjust projects or decisions before implementation.
To monitor the implementation of our sustainability strategy, we develop an annual action plan within the framework of the Voka Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship (VCDO), which is supported and audited by the Voka Chamber of Commerce Flemish Brabant. Since 2017, we have received the VCDO every year in recognition of our sustainability efforts. In 2023, we were also recognised by UNITAR and Cifal Flanders (now Cifal Brussels) as an SDG Ambassador, the highest level of recognition within their SDG programme.
Our sustainability efforts and objectives for 2030 (B2, C2)
